Montana Prairie Dog Hunting | Guides & Outfitters

Below is a list of every Montana guide, lodge, and outfitter offering prairie dog hunts. I made this directory (with actual links) to give you the largest source of places to shoot prairie dogs in MT. Every outfitter is different. Some spend a lot of money getting a fancy website built, some choose to build their sites themselves. It is important to remember that the look of a website has nothing to do with the quality of the hunt. I encourage you to take a look at each outfitter, pick a few that interest you, and then give them a quick call or E-mail. I hope this resource helps you on your search for a quality Montana prairie dog hunt.

Cedar Breaks Outfitting / Broadus, MT / (406) 436-2743

The wide open, wind-swept grasslands of eastern Montana offers precision shooting opportunities like few marksmen ever experience. Here, prairie dog towns cover thousands of acres and give home to hundreds of thousands of these ever hungry sod poodles. Dog towns are notoriously bare of vegetation because the ever expanding rodent population crops everything edible within a substantial area around their burrows, and their holes present a real hazard to livestock. For that reason, prairie dogs are not the landowner’s favorite resident. Our many hunting leases afford precision marksmen nearly unlimited ability to test their skills, their equipment, and their ammunition in ways not possible at formal rifle ranges. Varying wind angles, lighting, and ranges from a few yards to nearly a thousand yards will test any rifleman’s accuracy under field conditions, and firing hundreds of rounds a day affords a training situation sure to improve any shooter’s long range competence. Bring several rifles, a portable bench, and plenty of ammo for a Big Sky shooting experience you’ll never forget.

Double Deuce Outfitters / Forsyth, MT / (406) 342-5475

Double Deuce Outfitters features exclusive rifle, archery/bow, guided and unguided Montana hunting on private ranches for trophy mule deer, trophy whitetail, elk, antelope, upland bird, waterfowl, pheasant, grouse, turkey, Montana prairie dog hunting, coyote hunting, varmint hunting, bird preserve and goose hunts on the Yellowstone River.

Musselshell Outfitters / Roundup, MT / (406) 323-3042

We offer prairie dog shooting trips on private land in June and July. This hunt does include lodging, but does not meals, as meals are taken at local cafes nearest to where we are hunting. This is a great trip for clients who like to shoot and coyote hunting or coyote calling can also be done early mornings or late evenings if desired. There is no license required on this trip. We supply shooting benches, shooting bags, and all transportation from the camp to the different dog towns. We have several different areas and manage the shooting so that the dog towns are not over shot. Most clients shoot from 100-300 rounds per day at prairie dogs.

SNS Outfitters & Guides / (307) 266-4229

Prairie dog hunting is a great way to enjoy hours of shooting and it's a great deal of fun. Our leased properties in Wyoming and Montana have very large populations of prairie dogs and offer prime prairie dog hunting, the ultimate rifleman's challenge. We offer prairie dog shoots during the months of June, and July each summer with the option of a camp-based hunt or staying in a motel. SNS employs a guide ratio of 2-3 shooters per guide and a minimum party of two or more shooters is required.
